Pregnancy resource centers in the United States served about 3.8 million people in 2024, providing services valued at more than $452 million, according to a new report cited by The Daily Wire. The centers say they are facing mounting opposition from Democratic officials over their promotion of abortion pill reversal protocols amid a surge in mail-order abortions aided by state shield laws.
A recent report from several national pro-life organizations says pregnancy centers expanded their reach in the years following the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.
According to the report, summarized by The Daily Wire, 2,775 pregnancy resource centers assisted 3,799,816 men and women in 2024, including more than one million new clients. The report estimates that services provided by these centers were valued at about $452,475,801. It also says the centers delivered more than $116 million in material support — a 48% increase from 2022 — including diapers, baby wipes, car seats, strollers, clothing, cribs, and other essentials.
The organizations behind the report include the Charlotte Lozier Institute, Care Net, Heartbeat International, the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, and Focus on the Family’s Option Ultrasound Program, according to The Daily Wire article.
The report says eight in ten pregnancy centers offer free or low-cost medical services and that more than 10,000 medical professionals work at these facilities. Around one-quarter of the centers are described as providing abortion pill reversal services, which involve administering the hormone progesterone shortly after a woman takes the first drug in a medication abortion in an effort to continue the pregnancy. The report claims that, as of June 2025, more than 7,000 babies had been saved through abortion pill reversal.
At the same time, pro-life groups say they are confronting an increase in mail-order abortions. The Daily Wire, citing the same report, says that shield laws in states such as New York protect providers who ship abortion pills into states where medication abortions are largely illegal, including Texas and Tennessee. The article reports an estimated 12,330 abortions per month occurring via pills sent under these shield-law protections. Pro-life advocates quoted in the piece urge the Trump administration to tighten Food and Drug Administration rules that allow abortion pills to be distributed through the mail.
Pregnancy centers that promote abortion pill reversal have come under growing scrutiny from Democratic officials in several blue states. The Daily Wire article notes that officials in New York, New Jersey, California and Illinois have targeted centers or related organizations over their support for or promotion of the protocol.
In New York, Attorney General Letitia James has sued 11 pregnancy resource centers and Heartbeat International over their promotion of abortion pill reversal. In California, pregnancy centers have faced similar lawsuits challenging how they advertise and promote the protocol, according to the Daily Wire report.
Meanwhile, in New Jersey, Attorney General Matthew Platkin issued a far‑reaching subpoena to a Christian pregnancy resource center seeking information about its donor base and other records. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a case on Wednesday on whether that center can challenge the subpoena, The Daily Wire reports.
Some Democratic lawmakers have also criticized pregnancy centers more broadly because they do not provide or refer for abortions. In 2022, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, speaking about crisis pregnancy centers, said they should be shut down, declaring, “Shut them down all around the country,” according to prior public remarks widely reported at the time.
The report includes testimonials from women who turned to pregnancy centers after considering or beginning a medication abortion. One account, highlighted by The Daily Wire, describes Aagust, a Florida woman who became pregnant while in nursing school and took an abortion pill before regretting the decision. She later contacted Mosaic Sexual Health Clinic, a pregnancy resource center, which helped her pursue abortion pill reversal. She ultimately delivered her son, whom she named Carter Jay.
“He is the smartest, most active little boy ever and I love him so much,” she said in the testimony cited by The Daily Wire. “God used Mosaic to save my baby and I am forever grateful.”
In a statement quoted by The Daily Wire, Charlotte Lozier Institute executive director Karen Czarnecki said, “As the landscape of abortion in America following the Dobbs decision has rapidly changed, pregnancy centers continue to offer steadfast, professional care to women and families. It’s imperative that pregnancy centers continue to increase the availability of services — walking alongside women, men and families to provide love, education and support so they can courageously choose life.”
