PS5 users can snag Wolfenstein II for $6 in PlayStation sale

A limited-time deal on the PlayStation Store allows PS5 owners to purchase the acclaimed 2017 first-person shooter Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus for just $5.99. The 85% discount ends on January 22 and requires no PlayStation Plus subscription, though the game is already part of the Extra and Premium tiers.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda, serves as the sequel to 2014's Wolfenstein: The New Order. Released in 2017 for PS4 and playable on PS5, it stands out in the first-person shooter genre for its strong single-player campaign, lacking multiplayer elements. The game earned critical praise, including a win for Best Action Game at The Game Awards, alongside nominations for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Performance. It holds an 87 score on Metacritic, highlighting its status as one of the year's top titles.

This sale marks the lowest price the game has ever reached on the PlayStation Store since its launch nearly a decade ago. Normally priced at $39.99, it drops to $5.99 until January 22, after which it reverts to full price. While Bethesda has occasionally offered 90% discounts on its titles, this 85% reduction is unlikely to be beaten soon.

For those new to the series, the 2017 entry connects narratively to its 2014 predecessor, which is currently available for $19.99 without a discount. The standalone prequel, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, also sits at $19.99. Meanwhile, the 2019 spin-off Wolfenstein: Youngblood's Deluxe Edition matches the $6 price but receives criticism as one of that year's weaker releases, with limited narrative importance in the franchise's future.

As the most recent mainline Wolfenstein game, this deal presents an ideal entry point, especially with a successor reportedly in development.
