Ratinho clarifies associations with Master bank scandal

TV host Ratinho issued a statement clarifying his ties to Credcesta and the Tayayá resort amid insinuations connected to the Master bank scandal. The links gained traction from political opponents of his son, Governor Ratinho Júnior. He emphasized the responsible management of his business partnerships.

TV presenter Ratinho, famous for his SBT show aimed at popular audiences, addressed claims linking him to the Master bank scandal, liquidated by Brazil's Central Bank at the end of 2025. In a statement to VEJA magazine via Grupo Massa, he denied irregularities in partnerships with Credcesta, a payroll loan card, and Tayayá Porto Rico resort.

The statement notes that Ratinho has engaged in advertising for over 30 years, including promoting Credcesta, which operated regularly under Central Bank oversight at the time of the contract. The product was created by a former associate of banker Daniel Vorcaro and gained popularity under Rui Costa's governorship in Bahia. After Master's liquidation, it shifted to a bank owned by Augusto Lima, arrested in the scandal.

Regarding Tayayá, it was part of Grupo Massa's hospitality arm, but divested as it ceased to be strategic. The insinuations intensified after Ratinho Júnior, Paraná's governor, said he would not pursue a presidential pre-candidacy with PSD. Ratinho stressed his commitment to the 'responsible management of his business partnerships'.

"The Credcesta promotion contract was signed to advertise services offered by the responsible financial institution," the Grupo Massa statement said.

TV host Ratinho addressed the controversy with deputy Erika Hilton again on his SBT show on Monday (March 16). He thanked supporters and defended his straightforwardness, stating he won't change his stance. The row stemmed from his criticism of her election to the Women's Commission.

Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, denied to the Federal Police having defrauded credit portfolios worth R$ 12.2 billion sold to BRB, claiming he did not know which were good or bad. The portfolios, acquired from Tirreno consultancy, allegedly originated from payroll loans via Bahia public server associations, but indications point to forgery to inflate the bank's balance. The testimony took place on December 30, 2025, at the STF, under the rapporteurship of Dias Toffoli.

Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, used a diverted loan from the bank to purchase a R$36 million mansion in Brasília's Lago Sul. The acquisition was through a company connected to his brother-in-law, part of a fraud network probed by federal police. Experts highlight irregularities that may breach financial transparency rules.

SBT president Daniela Beyruti spoke with deputy Erika Hilton after transphobic comments by host Ratinho, but the network denies she initiated the contact. The lawmaker confirmed the exchange, in which Beyruti apologized on behalf of the broadcaster. The incident followed Ratinho's statements on his show on the night of March 11, 2026.

At least 46 online profiles have launched coordinated attacks against Brazil's Central Bank and investigators in the ongoing Banco Master scandal, intensifying amid legal battles including a recent STF confrontation. Gossip influencers are posting biased content criticizing the regulator's veto of BRB's acquisition and the bank's liquidation.

STF Justice André Mendonça ordered greater transparency in the Banco Master case by mandating the delivery of ex-banker Daniel Vorcaro's data to the INSS CPI and the Federal Police. The ruling makes Vorcaro's attendance at the commission optional and reduces risks of evidence tampering. Meanwhile, reports of parties hosted by Vorcaro with authorities heighten suspicions of undue influence in power structures.

The Federal Police is conducting a series of operations against Banco Master, owned by Daniel Vorcaro, on suspicions of financial fraud, money laundering, and irregular use of public resources. The probes include the sale of credits without backing and pension fund investments in the bank's securities. Meanwhile, vacancies in the CVM directorate are delaying related judgments.
