Real Madrid opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 victory over Alcorcon in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Valdebebas on July 24.
Jose Mourinho named his first starting lineup since returning to the club. Andriy Lunin captained the side, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raul Asencio, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras in defense. Eduardo Camavinga and Cestero started in midfield, supported by Franco Mastantuono, Arda Guler and Gonzalo Garcia.
Fede Valverde watched from the stands along with injured teammates Eder Militao and Rodrygo. Arda Guler missed an early penalty, but academy forward Daniel Yanez scored from the spot in the 81st minute to secure the win after Mourinho made wholesale changes.
The result came less than a month before Real Madrid's La Liga opener away to Espanyol. Several players remain on post-World Cup breaks, including Antonio Rudiger and Denzel Dumfries. The team will next face Fiorentina on August 1 in Klagenfurt, Austria.
