Real Madrid pursue Rodri amid back surgery plans

Real Madrid are working on a deal to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri this summer. The move comes after the Spain international won the Golden Ball at the World Cup.

Discussions between the clubs have not yet taken place, according to reports. Real Madrid are confident an agreement can be reached despite Rodri entering the final year of his City contract.

Rodri is set to undergo surgery on a back problem on Monday. No return date has been confirmed. City manager Enzo Maresca addressed the speculation at his first press conference.

“Around big players there is always speculation,” Maresca said. “But now he needs surgery, then a holiday, then time to recover. After that, he will be back with us.”

Rodri has previously said he would like to return to La Liga one day. City have already signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m this summer.
