Resident Evil announces Babymetal collaboration for 30th anniversary

Capcom has revealed a collaboration between the Resident Evil series and Japanese metal idol group Babymetal to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary in 2026. The announcement was made during Babymetal's historic concert at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Details on the upcoming collection remain limited, but a teaser video hints at new merchandise designs.

Announcement Details

The collaboration marks the first time the survival horror series Resident Evil has partnered with a music act. Capcom unveiled the news at Babymetal's solo performance at the Intuit Dome, where the group became the first Japanese act to headline the venue. A teaser video featured brief flashes of artwork suggesting potential designs for the Resident Evil x Babymetal collection, set to launch sometime in 2026.

Capcom has not disclosed specifics on the items, but a dedicated website for the Resident Evil 30th anniversary is now live, allowing fans to follow updates. The franchise, originally released as Biohazard in Japan, debuted in 1996 on PlayStation and was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara. Its blend of eerie atmosphere, puzzles, and undead encounters established the survival horror genre.

Upcoming Releases

The anniversary year will see major expansions for the series, which will reach 30 game releases with the launch of Resident Evil: Requiem, the ninth mainline entry, scheduled for February 2026. Additionally, the mobile real-time strategy game Resident Evil Survival Unit is in development. Beyond games, Resident Evil has inspired six live-action films, four animated movies, an anime miniseries, a Netflix adaptation, comics, and various collectibles.
