Richard Osman announces sequel to We Solve Murders series

Richard Osman has revealed the second book in his We Solve Murders series, titled We Chase Shadows, set for release in September 2026. The novel continues the adventures of characters Amy Wheeler, Steve Wheeler, and Rosie D’Antonio. It is available for pre-order now.

Richard Osman, the 55-year-old former co-host of Pointless and bestselling author of the Thursday Murder Club novels, announced the sequel on February 27, 2026, via a video on his social media channels.

In the video, Osman shared: “I have great news for fans of We Solve Murders: We Solve Murders 2 is on its way.” He added: “To celebrate I have got a perfect facsimile of Trouble the Cat on my lap. Steve, Amy and Rosie D’Antonio are back.”

We Chase Shadows picks up the story of private security officer Amy Wheeler and her father-in-law Steve Wheeler, an ex-policeman turned reluctant private investigator, alongside Rosie D’Antonio. The first book, We Solve Murders, was published in September 2024 and followed the duo as they solved murders while evading danger.

Osman described the series' tone in a Radio Times interview at the time of the first book's release: “It’s a bit more airport thriller-y than The Thursday Murder Club. I knew I wanted to set myself a new challenge, but this book absolutely has the same sensibility, the same warmth and humour based in characters. I get to go around the world with it, which is nice, but Steve has no interest in that. I thought a fun character to send on a cat-and-mouse chase around the world would be somebody who’s thinking, ‘I hope we get this done by Tuesday because I want to get back for the pub quiz.’”

The author teased that We Chase Shadows will feature “lots of thrills, lots of laughs, and lots of murders.” The official synopsis states: “In the Italian hills, a body is found on the steps of a private villa at sunrise. Our mis-matched detective trio Amy, Rose and Steve return, in pursuit of an elusive and ruthless killer. Between Italy and Palm Springs, via Barcelona and Steve’s sleepy village pub, they uncover an impossible case where it seems that everyone is hiding something... .”

Additionally, Osman confirmed in a Radio Times interview that a television series adaptation of We Solve Murders is in development, though no further details were provided. The first Thursday Murder Club novel has recently been adapted for the big screen.
