Rosario Central came from behind to win 3-1 against Independiente at the Gigante de Arroyito on Sunday. Goals from Ángel Di María, Giovanni Cantizano and Elías Verón secured a quarterfinal spot in the Torneo Apertura 2026.
The match started with Independiente ahead after Gabriel Ávalos scored at the 35th minute of the first half. Ángel Di María leveled the score with a left-footed shot in the 46th minute before halftime.
Rosario Central took control in the second half. Giovanni Cantizano made it 2-1 at the 38th minute and Elías Verón sealed the result at the 46th. Jorge Almirón’s side held 60% possession and registered 14 shots on target.
The win sends Rosario Central to the quarterfinals where it will face the winner of Racing versus Estudiantes. Independiente was eliminated from the competition.
