Serena Williams coach predicts singles return at Wimbledon

Rick Macci, who began coaching Serena Williams at age nine, has predicted she will accept a wildcard to play singles at Wimbledon this year. The 44-year-old is already entered in doubles alongside her sister Venus. Macci said he told others four months ago that her return was coming.

Macci posted on X that Serena will play singles at the All England Club. He added that the grass surface suits her game and that she has trained hard since her WTA reinstatement.

Serena remained noncommittal during a press conference in Berlin after losing in doubles. She said the decision was the question of the hour.

Andy Murray welcomed the comeback and said it was brilliant for tennis to see the sisters still love competing. Martina Navratilova praised Serena for pushing boundaries and giving younger players a chance to face her.

The Williams sisters have 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together and last played as a pair at Wimbledon in 2016. Their doubles entry and any singles appearance are set for the tournament that begins June 29.
