Setting up Xbox Cloud Gaming on Steam Deck guide released

A new tutorial explains how to stream Xbox Game Pass titles on the Steam Deck using Microsoft Edge. This setup allows portable gaming of titles like Halo Infinite and Starfield without downloads. It requires specific software and a strong internet connection for smooth performance.

The Steam Deck, Valve's handheld gaming device, now supports streaming of Xbox Game Pass titles through Xbox Cloud Gaming, enhancing portable play options. This integration leverages Microsoft's cloud service to run console games anywhere with a reliable internet connection, avoiding the need for large downloads and saving storage space.

To begin setup, users need a Steam Deck with the latest system update, Microsoft Edge Beta for Linux, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, a strong 5GHz Wi-Fi connection, and optionally a keyboard and mouse. The process starts in Desktop Mode: press the power button and select Change to Desktop to access the Linux environment.

Next, install Microsoft Edge via the Discover Software Center. Add it to the Steam Library by opening the Application Launcher, right-clicking Edge, and selecting Add to Steam. To enable controller input, open the Konsole terminal and enter the command: flatpak --user override --filesystem=/run/udev:ro com.microsoft.Edge.

Create a shortcut for Xbox Cloud Gaming by going to the Edge app properties in Steam and adding these launch options: --window-size=1024,640 --force-device-scale-factor=1.25 --kiosk "https://www.xbox.com/play". Set the controller layout to Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad in Steam's settings for Edge to ensure smooth button and touchpad functionality.

Return to Gaming Mode afterward. The new shortcut, Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), appears in the library. Launch it, log in with a Microsoft account, and access the cloud library to play games like Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, and Starfield.

For optimal performance, maintain a fast network connection and stay near the router. Check controller settings if inputs fail, and consider adding custom icons for a neater library appearance. This setup combines Steam and Xbox ecosystems, expanding gaming freedom on the go.
