Taiwanese American comedian Sheng Wang will perform at Tokyo's Kanda Square Hall on January 15. His laid-back observational style gained global attention through a Netflix special. The show marks part of his first Asia mini-tour.
Sheng Wang, known for his long locks, round glasses, and deep, measured voice, is among the most relaxed stand-up comedians. He delivers jokes with calm energy, even when exploring existential dilemmas.
His breakthrough came with the 2022 Netflix special "Sweet and Juicy," directed by Ali Wong. The hour-long show resonated globally through observations of everyday hassles, such as the effort involved in juicing or struggling to reach the bottom of a lotion bottle.
Prior to that, from 2015 to 2018, Wang contributed as a writer, executive story editor, and actor on the hit series "Fresh Off the Boat." The show offered an honest portrayal of Asian immigrant life in the United States, filling a welcome gap in representation.
The January 15 performance at Kanda Square Hall in Tokyo forms part of his inaugural Asia mini-tour, a key milestone in his rising career.
