Six in 10 Filipinos experienced cybersecurity incidents in 2024

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, 62.5 percent of ICT device users experienced at least one cybersecurity incident in 2024.

Of the 38.86 million Filipinos aged 10 and older who used an ICT device, 24.28 million encountered an incident. SMS fraud was the most common, affecting 57.1 percent of victims.

This was followed by hacking at 7.8 percent, phishing at 6.1 percent and cyberbullying or cyber libel at 1.1 percent. MIMAROPA posted the highest rate at 73.6 percent.

At the Digital Bayanihan Safety Summit 2026, Meta Philippines head of public policy Gio Tingson said the company prioritizes online safety using AI. Meta removed 159 million scam advertisements worldwide in 2025.
