A Cessna 172 small plane crashed in farmland in Santa Ana Xalmimilulco, Huejotzingo, Puebla, minutes before 1 p.m., killing four people. The aircraft had taken off from Hermanos Serdán International Airport bound for Poza Rica, Veracruz, but failed shortly after, apparently due to engine trouble. State Civil Protection confirmed the incident near San Miguel Quetzalcóatl Industrial Park.
The Cessna 172 plane dove near the San Mateo Capultitlán – Santa Ana Xalmimilulco highway in Huejotzingo. Local farmers recorded it flying low before it plummeted to the ground and called emergency services.
Puebla State Civil Protection reported three dead at the scene and one more in a hospital in the state capital. The victims were identified as Paulo Antonio Vélez V., Marcos Omar Martínez Tavera, Ramsés Olin Zaragoza Burgos —pilots and passenger— and Emilio Gil Ramírez, who died shortly after stabilization.
According to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), the aircraft was registered on January 22, 2022, with a confidential owner. It had a hangar at Cuernavaca International Airport, Morelos, and was not linked to any aviation school in Puebla. Authorities are conducting investigations to confirm the exact cause of the failure.
