South Kingstown police arrest man after Tesla crash into coffee shop

Early Tuesday morning, South Kingstown police arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence after he crashed his Tesla into a local coffee shop. The incident caused extensive damage to the business. The suspect was held overnight and arraigned later that day.

The crash occurred at about 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, when Mark A. DeLong, 30, of 135 Great Neck Road in North Kingstown, drove his 2025 Tesla into TLC Coffee Roasters in South Kingstown.

South Kingstown Police Department officers arrested DeLong on suspicion of driving under the influence of liquor or drugs following the collision. He was held overnight and arraigned on Tuesday at Washington District Court.

South Kingstown Police Chief Matthew Moynihan emphasized the dangers of impaired driving in a statement. “Driving under the influence of alcohol or cannabis is never acceptable,” Moynihan said. “There is no excuse for impaired driving—use a rideshare, call a friend, or stay put. Choosing to drive impaired is reckless, and the extensive damage to this small business is a direct result of that poor decision.”

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about impaired driving in the area, though no further details on injuries or the full extent of damage were reported. Police continue to stress alternatives to driving while impaired to prevent such accidents.
