Spain drew 0-0 with Cape Verde in Atlanta as Lamine Yamal boosted the team after entering in the second half.
Spain began its 2026 World Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta. The team held most of the possession but lacked penetration until Lamine Yamal entered in the 71st minute.
Yamal completed five dribbles and forced defenders to mark him closely, according to coach Luis de la Fuente. The Barcelona forward had recovered from a 55-day hamstring injury and showed limited match fitness.
The Spanish squad conveyed a message of calm after the match. The next fixture is against Saudi Arabia on June 21, also in Atlanta.
