Spring reaches Dalarna early in 2026 season

Meteorological spring has arrived a week early in large parts of Dalarna after a mild March, following its earlier debut in southern Sweden. Average daily temperatures exceeded zero for seven days straight, though winter lingers in the north and west. Pollen from southern Europe may already affect allergies.

Building on spring's arrival in Skåne, Blekinge, and Gotland on February 27, large parts of Dalarna now meet the meteorological threshold: seven consecutive days with average daily temperatures above zero degrees. Nighttime frosts are possible if days are warm enough to compensate.

This marks about a week ahead of schedule, though western and northern Dalarna remain in winter. Further warming could extend spring soon.

Allergy sufferers: SVT meteorologist Jannicke Geitskaret notes southern winds carrying pollen from blooming in southern Europe, with the alder line just south of Dalarna. Sensitive individuals may feel effects locally.

April's variable weather looms, per Geitskaret: "We all know April weather, and we haven't had any setbacks yet, so I think they will come." The mild spell may prove short-lived.

Following its arrival in southern Sweden last week, meteorological spring has now reached most of Uppsala county, with temperatures up to 10 degrees expected on Thursday according to SMHI. Spring is confirmed except along the Uppland coast, where winter lingers. Meteorologist Marcus Sjöstedt notes the unusually quick shift required seven consecutive days of above-zero average temperatures after February 15.

Meteorological spring has arrived in much of Sweden for the weekend. Double-digit temperatures and plenty of sun are forecast, especially in the south up to 14 degrees. Meteorologists warn of cool nights and a change afterward.

Spring brings the thaw, now affecting roads in Ludvika and Smedjebacken. Trafikverket has issued 17 warnings for frost damage in the area. Restrictions are being imposed on heavy vehicles due to the damaging effects.
