Springboks name squad for Barbarians match in Gqeberha

The Springboks will face the Barbarians on Saturday in Gqeberha. The match comes amid several injuries to scrumhalves. Faf de Klerk returns to the squad.

The Springboks open their 2026 season against the Barbarians at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm South African time. Grant Williams starts at scrumhalf with Faf de Klerk named among the replacements.

Injuries have sidelined Cobus Reinach, Morné van den Berg and Jaden Hendrikse. Rassie Erasmus said the Barbarians match offers a chance to assess options ahead of the Nations Championship opener against England on 4 July.

An SA A side will play Zimbabwe earlier the same day at the same venue. Riley Norton starts for the Springboks at lock while Vincent Tshituka captains the SA A team.

Duhan van der Merwe lines up for the Barbarians. The Scotland wing was born in South Africa.
