Paramount+'s Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which premiered its first season on January 15, 2026, will end after its forthcoming second season, according to TVLine. Variety first reported the news. The series was renewed in October 2024 prior to its debut.
The announcement comes shortly after the 10-episode first season concluded on March 12. Set in the 32nd century following Star Trek: Discovery, the show depicts Starfleet reopening its academy under Captain Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter). The season finale featured a trial against the Federation led by pirate Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti), resolved through testimony from cadet Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta) and revelations from Ake about the fate of Braka's people, resulting in his arrest.
The season did not chart on Nielsen's Top 10 streaming lists. TVLine's Dave Nemetz gave it a C+, praising its new direction while critiquing familiar Trek shortcomings. A joint statement from CBS Studios and Paramount+ highlighted pride in the show's ambition, thanking executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Noga Landau, Gaia Violo, and the cast and crew for advancing Gene Roddenberry's vision.
Season 2 has wrapped production but has no release date yet. Kurtzman and Landau issued a letter to fans, recommitting to a strong finish and invoking Roddenberry's optimistic caution about humanity and diversity.
