Starbucks' bearista cup sparks memes and resale in Mexico

Starbucks' launch of the bear-shaped Bearista Cup has created a frenzy in Mexico, with long lines and viral memes on social media. The limited-edition item sells for 869 pesos but is already resold at high prices. Demand has prompted camping outside stores and humorous comparisons to cheaper products.

Starbucks Mexico launched the Bearista Cup, a crystal glass shaped like a bear with a green knit hat and arms hugging a coffee cup, designed for cold drinks with a 591-milliliter capacity. Announced in early November 2025, early access for Gold members of the Starbucks Rewards program started on December 1, while general sales began on December 2 and continue until sold out.

Only 37,472 units will be produced nationwide, distributed across stores with limits per location. To purchase, customers must buy a hot, iced, or Frappuccino drink in Grande (400 ml) or Venti (500 ml) size prepared at the counter, in physical stores; it does not apply to drive-thru, delivery, or online. The cup costs 869 pesos, in addition to the drink, with a limit of one per person and ticket.

The hype has led to people camping outside stores to get one, and on platforms like Mercado Libre, resales reach up to 6,500 pesos. Social media memes highlight exaggerated resale prices, comparisons to cheaper bear-shaped juice containers, and parodies by brands with versions featuring chicks or penguins. Users share customized bags with holiday messages, fueling the viral trend.
