Adam Pearce announced a new stipulation for the tag team match at Saturday Night's Main Event involving CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, GUNTHER and Sami Zayn. If GUNTHER and Zayn win, they will join the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2026.
Adam Pearce, serving as acting general manager for WWE SmackDown, informed GUNTHER of the change during the July 18 episode.
Pearce stated that victory for GUNTHER and Sami Zayn against CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at Madison Square Garden would add both wrestlers to the title match at SummerSlam.
The tag match stems from GUNTHER's frustration over exclusion from the title picture after attacking general manager Nick Aldis. Sami Zayn had lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Punk on Raw on July 6 following a nine-day reign.
The announcement sets up the possibility of a four-way match at SummerSlam instead of the planned singles bout between Punk and Rhodes.
