Iga Swiatek defeated Naomi Osaka 6-2, 6-1 in 80 minutes during the fourth round of the Italian Open on May 12. The match took place on the BNP Paribas Arena rather than the main court. Swiatek advanced to face Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals.
The two players, who share 10 Grand Slam titles, met after both reached the later stages of the clay-court event. Swiatek dominated from the start as Osaka struggled with her serve in cold and slow conditions. The victory improved Swiatek's record against former WTA number ones to 21-9.
