Tesla's implementation of Apple CarPlay in its vehicles has been postponed, according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The delay stems from compatibility issues and lower-than-expected adoption of iOS 26. Tesla owners have been awaiting Apple CarPlay integration for their electric vehicles, but progress has stalled. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter that Tesla's plans are delayed due to app compatibility issues and low adoption rates for iOS 26. Initial rumors pointed to a late 2025 rollout, and Bloomberg noted Tesla was testing CarPlay in November.
A key hurdle involves synchronization between Apple Maps and Tesla's in-house navigation software, which supports autonomous driving features. Apple released an iOS 26 update to better align these apps, particularly during use of Tesla's self-driving options. Despite this, Tesla is holding back, citing concerns over iOS 26 uptake. Apple's latest figures show 74 percent of iPhones released in the last four years running iOS 26, a rate lower than usual but now increasing.
No official launch date has been announced for CarPlay in Teslas. Gurman suggests the feature could help boost sales, as US registration estimates indicated a fourth consecutive monthly decline in January.
