Tether invests $20 million in Mercado Bitcoin

Tether has invested $20 million in Brazilian crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin. The funding supports the platform's growth in Latin America.

Mercado Bitcoin raised the fresh capital from USDT stablecoin issuer Tether. The investment aims to fuel expansion across the region.

The Brazilian platform will use the funds to advance tokenized assets, stablecoin payments and lending services.

The deal was announced on July 7, 2026.

The new rule, BCB Resolution No. 561, takes effect on October 1. Individual investors can still buy, hold, and trade crypto through authorized providers.
