HBO's period drama The Gilded Age has promoted Jordan Donica and Ashlie Atkinson to series regulars for its upcoming fourth season. The series also adds six new actors in recurring roles, including Dennis Haysbert and Neal Huff. These changes come as production prepares to begin filming next month.
HBO's The Gilded Age, created by Julian Fellowes, has announced key casting updates for season 4. Jordan Donica, who plays Dr. William Kirkland, and Ashlie Atkinson, who portrays socialite Mamie Fish, have been elevated to series regulars. Donica's character proposed to Peggy Scott, played by Denée Benton, in the season 3 finale, and sources confirm Peggy accepts the proposal. Kirkland's prominent family, including his mother Elizabeth played by Phylicia Rashad, may not approve of the match.
The official season 4 description states: “Bertha Russell changed Society at a cost. Now, her family must reckon with the consequences as Agnes van Rhijn seizes an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian forges a new path for herself, and Peggy works to be accepted by her future in-laws. In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for.” This follows season 3 events where Bertha Russell, played by Carrie Coon, welcomed divorced women into elite circles, potentially straining her marriage to George Russell, played by Morgan Spector. George narrowly escaped death, saved by Kirkland.
Six new recurring roles include Dennis Haysbert as Dr. Reginald Harris, Kirkland's mentor fundraising for Freedman’s Hospital in Washington, DC; Neal Huff as oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller; Bonnie Milligan as magazine editor Mrs. Knapp Curtis of The Ladies’ Home Journal; James Scully as artist Lee Klein, apprentice to William Merritt Chase; Taylor Trensch as Oliver, joining the van Rhijn household; and Maggie Kuntz as free-spirited Fiona Summers, cousin to the Astors.
Filming begins on February 23, 2026, according to The Associated Press. Donna Murphy, who plays Mrs. Astor, shared on Instagram that her costume fitting indicates the season is set in 1886, suggesting a two-year time jump from season 3's 1884 setting, though HBO has not confirmed this. The series was renewed for season 4 in July 2025, with no premiere date announced but inclusion in HBO's 2026 programming slate.
