The Itch release euphoric single 'Space in the Cab'

The Luton-based dance-punk duo The Itch have unveiled their new single 'Space in the Cab', a vibrant tribute to British nightlife amid its decline. The track captures the hedonistic spirit of late-night revelry with vocoder-assisted vocals and an addictive melody. It follows previous releases like 'Ursula' and the double-A side 'The Influencer' / 'Co-Conspirator'.

Single Overview

'Space in the Cab' serves as an euphoric love letter to the UK's fading club scene, blending celebration with lament. The song features lyrics that highlight the emptiness of modern nightlife, such as: “And the clubs are all empty / They’re all out of pocket / I’m all out of options / I’m having a crisis.” Produced by the duo Simon Tyrie and Georgia Hardy, it evokes the heyday of late-night partying while addressing current challenges.

Background and Inspirations

The Itch, hailing from Luton, have built a reputation with their dance-punk sound. Earlier this year, they discussed the song's themes in an NME interview, where Tyrie noted the closure of many venues: “So many venues have shut down. I remember reading about Foals doing all these house parties, and none of that happens now.” He also drew inspiration from lyricists like Jarvis Cocker and Morrissey, praising their use of dark humor: “Some of my favourite lyricists... their lyrics hit so much harder when there’s this element of dark humour to them. When things are too earnest, I don’t take them as seriously because people aren’t like that.”

Recent and Upcoming Events

On November 13, The Itch headlined The Great Escape’s First Fifty event at Sebright Arms in London. They are set to host a Christmas party at Shacklewell Arms on December 12, featuring live performances from Pearl2 and lifeloose. Tickets for the event are available online.

The single's release underscores ongoing conversations about preserving UK nightlife culture through music and intimate gatherings.
