The incident occurred following the match in Uruguay. Tigre players displayed a banner reading “Las Malvinas son Argentinas.” Visiting supporters also chanted a familiar slogan directed at England.
This action echoes a similar display by Argentina’s national team after their recent World Cup semi-final win over England. CONMEBOL may consider disciplinary measures against the club.
FIFA is already examining the national team’s conduct in the related incident. The Falkland Islands Government issued a statement expressing disappointment over the use of the territory in football disputes.
Britain and Argentina fought a 74-day war over the islands in 1982. The territory remains under British control.
