Tinubu heads to South Africa and Angola for key summits

President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Wednesday for visits to Johannesburg and Luanda. He aims to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa and the AU-EU Summit in Angola. These engagements focus on global economic issues and continental priorities.

President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, for a two-nation trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola. His itinerary includes high-level global and continental meetings to advance Nigeria's interests in economic development and international cooperation.

The first stop is the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. This invitation follows a similar one extended by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during Brazil's 2024 G20 chairmanship. The summit's theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will cover plenary sessions on inclusive and sustainable growth, trade, financing for development, global debt, disaster risk reduction, climate change, just energy transition, food systems, the future of work, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and equitable development.

During the event, Tinubu plans strategic bilateral meetings to promote his Renewed Hope Agenda and enhance cooperation on peace, security, and economic development. Accompanying him are key officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, and National Intelligence Agency Director-General Mohammed Mohammed.

Following the G20, Tinubu will travel to Luanda for the 7th African Union-European Union Summit on November 24–25. This gathering of heads of state, young leaders, innovators, and civil society will address climate adaptation, infrastructure, digital transformation, creative industries, agribusiness, and inclusive development.

Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after these engagements. In related domestic matters, he has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State to console families of abducted schoolgirls and assure their swift release. He also offered condolences to the military for the loss of soldiers and Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State operations against insurgents.
