Tinubu inaugurates APC committee to heal party rifts for 2027 elections

President Bola Tinubu has launched a key committee within the All Progressives Congress to tackle internal divisions and prepare for the 2027 polls. The group, chaired by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, includes prominent governors and ministers. It aims to foster unity and devise effective mobilization strategies.

On Wednesday in Lagos, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC). This high-powered body seeks to mend internal disagreements and build a cohesive approach as the party gears up for the 2027 general elections.

The committee draws from serving governors, federal ministers, and key party figures nationwide. Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni serves as chairman, with Muiz Banire, former APC National Legal Adviser, as member and secretary. Members include Senator Adamu Aliero; Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, who chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum; Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, head of the Progressive Governors’ Forum; and governors from Benue (Hyacinth Alia), Jigawa (Umar Namadi), Cross River (Bassey Otu), Ekiti (Abiodun Oyebanji), Delta (Sheriff Oborevwori), Kaduna (Uba Sani), and Rivers (Siminalayi Fubara). Also involved are Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

At the event, Buni thanked Tinubu and party leaders for their trust. He committed to thorough consultations to create an inclusive framework. “The committee will engage in strategic consultations to develop an all-encompassing, productive and result-oriented strategy that will stand the test of time. We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope,” Buni stated.

He emphasized preventing conflicts by spotting potential issues early and urged members to prioritize party goals over personal ones.

This move follows Tinubu's address at the APC’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting on December 19 in Abuja. There, he stressed unity: “We must continue to be resolute that this democracy that we take in our hands must not fail. We say we are bigger, we are larger and taller, but it should now be in our hearts to be accommodating. That is the only way we can be resilient; we must be tolerant.”

Party observers see the committee as vital for maintaining APC strength amid rising competition.
