Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has stated that his team possesses the strongest power unit in Formula 1, an assessment echoed by Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies.
The comments came after the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, where Wolff addressed reliability issues affecting the team. He told Sky Sports F1 that Mercedes engines lacked straight-line power, impacting driver George Russell.
"We have the most powerful power unit," Wolff said. He also referenced past races including Silverstone, Montreal and Barcelona where issues arose.
Mekies agreed with the assessment following the race. "Toto is right. I also think that they have the most powerful power unit," he stated, noting Mercedes' advantage on straights.
The remarks return focus to the FIA's ADUO system. The second monitoring period concludes after the Hungarian Grand Prix next weekend, with results expected shortly thereafter.
