Gabbard, who has served 15 months in the role, submitted her resignation in a letter dated May 22, 2026. She wrote that her husband faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months, and she must step away from public service to support him. Gabbard pledged to ensure a smooth transition at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence through the end of June.
