Twisted Metal renewed for season 3 at Peacock

Peacock has renewed the post-apocalyptic action comedy Twisted Metal for a third season. David Reed, known for his work on The Boys and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, will take over as showrunner, replacing Michael Jonathan Smith. The series, based on the classic PlayStation video game, stars Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz.

Renewal and Showrunner Change

Peacock announced the renewal of Twisted Metal for Season 3 on November 18, 2025, ensuring the series continues its run in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. The show, which debuted in 2023, saw its second season premiere in July 2025 and has performed strongly, accumulating 993 million minutes viewed to date—making it Peacock's second biggest returning original scripted season, according to NBCUniversal.

Michael Jonathan Smith, who co-created the series and served as showrunner for the first two seasons, is stepping away. David Reed will step in as showrunner and executive producer for Season 3 under his overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. Reed brings experience from writing and producing on shows like The Boys, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Magicians, Supernatural, and Aquarius. He has also developed pilots for networks including BBC Worldwide, CBS, and FX, and worked on novels, comics, and video games.

Cast and Plot Overview

Twisted Metal stars Anthony Mackie as John Doe, a driver tasked with delivering a mysterious package amid deadly challenges in a post-apocalyptic world. Stephanie Beatriz co-stars as Quiet, with supporting roles filled by Joe Seanoa as Sweet Tooth (voiced by Will Arnett), Anthony Carrigan as Calypso, and Tiana Okoye as Dollface. The series also features Patty Guggenheim in the cast.

Season 2 follows John and Quiet as they enter the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a demolition derby hosted by the enigmatic Calypso. They face new foes and familiar threats, including the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, while John reunites with his long-lost sister, Dollface.
