Two dead, three injured in suspected bandit ambush on livestock lorry

Two people were killed and three others injured when armed bandits ambushed a lorry transporting livestock from Samburu to Isiolo. The attack occurred on Thursday, January 15, around 5:30pm, between Sapashe and Lerata. Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo condemned the incident and noted that the assailants fled with 12 head of cattle.

The incident unfolded as a lorry carried livestock from Lolkuniyiani Market in Samburu County toward Isiolo. According to Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo, "At around 1730 hours, unknown armed bandits attacked a lorry transporting livestock from Lolkuniyiani Market, located between Sapashe and Lerata in Samburu County, en route to Isiolo." During the assault, two individuals died on the spot, while three others suffered gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Among the deceased was a minor.

Guyo stated, "During the attack, two people lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries. The assailants escaped with twelve heads of cattle." The governor condemned the violence and urged Samburu County's security team, alongside national agencies, to pursue the perpetrators swiftly.

"We strongly urge the Samburu County security team, in collaboration with all relevant national security agencies, to expedite investigations, pursue the perpetrators, and take decisive action," Guyo demanded.

This attack comes amid ongoing government efforts to implement a multi-agency strategy against banditry in the North Rift regions, including Baringo, Turkana, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Isiolo. A similar incident occurred on December 24 last year along the Kom-Isiolo road, where two people were seriously injured in an alleged bandit attack attributed to Samburu assailants, though the Samburu community denied the claims and called for evidence.
