Wadim Rosenstein and Jan Henric Buettner announced their candidacies for FIDE president on June 26, becoming the first declared challengers to incumbent Arkady Dvorkovich.
Rosenstein made the first announcement that morning, naming Chinese businessman Gordon Tang as his running mate for deputy president. He emphasized the need for stronger leadership and professional governance at the International Chess Federation.
Buettner followed four hours later, selecting IM Malcolm Pein as his deputy president candidate. His campaign will begin with consultations involving all member federations before finalizing a manifesto.
The FIDE presidential election is scheduled for September 26-27 during the General Assembly in Uzbekistan. Dvorkovich has not yet confirmed whether he will seek a third term.
