Two migrant workers die in Rajkot Vande Bharat train selfie accident

In Gujarat's Rajkot, three young migrant workers were taking a group selfie near railway tracks with the Vande Bharat train when they were struck, killing two and severely injuring one. The incident occurred on February 2, 2026. Police have warned against selfies near tracks.

In Gujarat's Rajkot, a tragic accident occurred on the evening of February 2, 2026, around 4:45 PM between Bhaktinagar and Ribda railway stations. Three young migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh, employed as factory laborers in the city, were heading to drop their colleague Sandeep Patel at the railway station as he was returning home.

While crossing the tracks, the group decided to take a selfie with the approaching Veraval-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat train. Misjudging the train's distance, all three were hit by the high-speed service.

Sub-Inspector AR Rathod stated, "One youth died on the spot, while the other two were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, where one more succumbed during treatment."

The deceased were identified as Sandeep Patel and Sandeep Koli. The injured Kapil Patel is receiving hospital treatment. All three hailed from Uttar Pradesh.

The train was halted briefly after the incident. Police are investigating and have appealed to the public to avoid taking selfies or videos near railway tracks. This tragedy underscores the risks of reckless behavior near active rail lines, particularly with semi-high-speed trains like Vande Bharat.
