Tyler Seguin undergoes ACL surgery after knee injury

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin had surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, following an injury sustained against the New York Rangers on December 2. His return timeline will be assessed after the Olympic break in February 2026. The 33-year-old is likely out for the remainder of the season, according to the team's coach.

Tyler Seguin's season with the Dallas Stars has been interrupted by a serious knee injury. The forward played just two shifts in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Rangers on December 2 before exiting at 1:44 of the first period. The next day, Stars coach Glen Gulutzan addressed the setback, stating, "We didn't get great news today. Haven't spoken to Tyler yet, but probably just letting everybody know that he's going to be out for a significant amount of time, probably the rest of the season."

Seguin underwent surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee on Tuesday. A full timeline for his return will be determined after the NHL's pause from February 6-24 for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, marking the league's first Olympic participation since 2014.

This season, the 33-year-old Seguin had recorded 17 points, including seven goals and 10 assists, in 27 games. He recently reached a career milestone, playing his 1,000th NHL game on October 30. The Stars honored him with a pregame ceremony before their 4-0 loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday.

Seguin's durability was tested last season when hip surgery limited him to 20 regular-season games, though he returned for the Stanley Cup Playoffs and contributed eight points (four goals, four assists) in 18 games. Drafted second overall by the Boston Bruins in 2010, Seguin has amassed 826 points (367 goals, 459 assists) in 1,016 regular-season games across the Bruins and Stars, plus 79 points (29 goals, 50 assists) in 151 playoff appearances. He won the Stanley Cup with Boston in 2011.

The Stars, sitting second in the Central Division with a 23-7-5 record, have won their last two games heading into Friday's matchup against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center.
