Uhuru Kenyatta defends Gachagua against Jubilee insults

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has defended former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, warning Jubilee Party leaders against insulting him. Speaking in Murang’a on November 7, 2025, he expressed disappointment over divisive and abusive politics on social media. He also endorsed Fred Matiang’i’s presidential ambitions.

At a Jubilee Party grassroots meeting in Murang’a on Friday, November 7, 2025, former President Uhuru Kenyatta defended former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He warned party leaders against insulting Gachagua on social media, expressing disappointment over divisive and abusive politics from some party officials.

“At times, I'm saddened to see people on social media who pretend to defend the party by insulting Rigathi Gachagua and others. I don't want that nonsense at my party. People should do their politics respectfully,” Uhuru said.

He added: “It's sad that most of them are party officials and let me say this, before I hand over this party, if they continue doing so, I will not hesitate to call them out and send them packing. I don't want to hear that ever again.” Uhuru specifically criticized Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, urging him to stop leading attacks on Gachagua.

He advised leaders to focus on promoting the party’s manifesto and goals instead of insults. “Let’s stop the blame game and exchanges. A true leader spreads policies, not insults. Let’s agree that Jubilee is not a party of insults,” he emphasized.

Additionally, he endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s presidential ambitions, noting he had worked with him and recognized his potential. “I have worked with Dr. Matiang’i. He is someone who loves work and delivers results. It’s not a personal favor, but because I recognize his ability to bring change,” Uhuru said. He dismissed claims of personal bias, citing Matiang’i’s achievements in the previous administration.

These remarks come a month after Kioni criticized Gachagua in September 2025, accusing him of bullying Matiang’i and secretly working with President William Ruto’s administration.
