President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the Iranians had shot down a US Apache helicopter the previous night near the Strait of Hormuz. He promised a response, describing the expected reply as “very strong, very powerful” in an interview with ABC. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on X that it had launched “self-defense strikes” proportionate to the Iranian aggression. The two pilots were confirmed safe and unharmed. Explosions were reported in Hormozgan Province, on Qeshm Island and near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state television said “the situation is now calm” after the US strikes ceased.
