USA beats Ecuador 3-0 in U-17 Women's World Cup opener

The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team started the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Ecuador in Group C. Goals from Meila Brewer, Nyanya Touray and Lauren Malsom secured the win in Salé, Morocco.

The match took place on October 18, 2025, at Mohammed VI Football Academy in Salé, Morocco, with an attendance of 555. The USA dominated early, earning a corner in the 19th minute that led to Brewer's header goal, assisted by Scottie Antonucci, making it 1-0.

Pressure continued as Maddie DiMaria hit the crossbar in the 22nd minute from a Micayla Johnson cross. In the 41st minute, DiMaria's shot was saved by Ecuador goalkeeper Maria Rodriguez, but Touray tapped in the rebound for 2-0, her fifth U-17 international goal.

Just before halftime, in the 45+1st minute, Johnson assisted Malsom for the third goal from 13 yards out, giving the USA a commanding lead. The second half saw offside calls negate goals by DiMaria and Johnson, while substitute KK Ream was denied in the 71st minute.

Ecuador picked up two first-half yellow cards and finished with 11 shots to the USA's 22, including 7 on target to 4. Goalkeeper Evan O’Steen secured her fifth World Cup shutout. The USA had 3.89 expected goals to Ecuador's 0.39.

In the other Group C match, China PR defeated Norway 5-0, placing the USA second in the group. The U.S. faces China PR on October 21 and Norway on October 24.
