Victor Brattström extends AIK contract and embraces bone broth

Victor Brattström, AIK's 28-year-old goaltender, has signed a two-year contract extension with the club he calls the team of his heart. After a turbulent career path, including stints with multiple teams last season, he now looks ahead to the playoffs against Modo. Outside hockey, he has developed a passion for making bone broth to aid recovery.

Victor Brattström recently extended his contract with AIK by two years, marking his second season with the Stockholm club. The 28-year-old from Torslanda, who lives in Östermalm with his partner, expressed strong attachment to AIK. “Det är laget i mitt hjärta, känner jag,” he told Hockeynews, adding that the club's environment helps him improve both on and off the ice. He appreciates the pressure and high expectations, noting AIK's ambition to reach SHL as a key draw, amplified by the club's overall popularity beyond hockey alone. Brattström joined AIK in spring 2024 after a challenging 2023/24 season where he played for four teams: three matches with HV71, two on loan at Björklöven, five with Färjestad from January, and finishing on loan at BIK Karlskoga. Prior experiences included three strong years at Timrå, one in Finland, and two tough years in the Detroit Red Wings' farm system, which he described as his heaviest setback. “Det var jättetufft,” he recalled, close to his NHL dream yet forced to leave. In AIK, he pairs with Jonas Gunnarsson, formerly of HV71. Brattström continues his community work, featuring a goalie mask illustrated by children from Ronald McDonald-huset in Huddinge, to be auctioned for charity as last season. Beyond hockey, his latest interest is preparing bone broth for recovery. “Det kommer bli populärt,” he said, explaining it helps well-being, avoids junk food, and can simmer for 6-8 hours or a full day. Looking to the playoffs starting tonight against Modo, Brattström is optimistic: “Vi vet vad vi kan... Det känns som vi är bäst när det gäller.” He expects a tight series but believes in AIK's potential.
