Will Ospreay left NJPW after eight years to join AEW in 2023, citing personal and professional factors during a recent interview.
Ospreay spoke on the Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze podcast about his exit from the Japanese promotion. He said dissatisfaction with office matters in 2023 combined with becoming a father prompted the change.
He explained that he wanted to stay involved in Japan without severing those connections. AEW provided the flexibility he sought while allowing him to keep ties to NJPW.
Ospreay informed booker Gedo of his plans and requested a final match inside a cage alongside United Empire members. The bout featured an unplanned table spot that injured Henare, who later received hospital treatment before rejoining the group for dinner.
