Winnipeg Jets draft Viggo Björck eighth overall

The Winnipeg Jets selected Djurgårdens center Viggo Björck with the eighth overall pick in the NHL Draft. Scouting chief Mark Hillier expressed strong confidence in the young player's potential.

Jets scouting chief Mark Hillier described Björck as one of the smartest players in the draft class. He highlighted the center's puck possession, positioning and defensive instincts, noting that Björck often has the puck more than any player he has seen recently.

Hillier told media after the draft that he believes Björck has a chance to reach the NHL roster this fall. He added that the player impressed the organization with his performance at the World Championship, where he took a leading role.

"I must be honest, he is one of the most exciting draft picks I have ever had," Hillier said. He also called Björck "short, but not small" and praised his hockey sense as "off the charts."
