The Wiper Patriotic Front has hit back at President William Ruto after his criticism of party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of claiming credit for the Kibwezi-Mutumo-Kitui-Bondoni road project initiated by Kalonzo. The party states the project was funded by China's EXIM Bank and sabotaged by the Jubilee government. Wiper vows not to join Ruto's administration and to challenge him in the 2027 elections.
The Wiper Patriotic Front issued a statement through its Secretary General Shakila Abdalla, condemning President William Ruto for taking credit for projects in the Ukambani region. The statement details how Ruto tours Lower Eastern, claiming ownership of the Kibwezi-Mutumo-Kitui-Bondoni road, which the party calls outright theft. "Ruto now parades through lower Eastern, claiming credit for the Kibwezi-Mutumo-Kitui-Bondoni road. This is not just dishonest; it is outright theft," the Wiper statement read.
According to the party, Kalonzo Musyoka personally launched the project on March 29, 2011, funded by the EXIM Bank of China. Kalonzo traveled to Beijing in 2012 to finalize the deal. However, Wiper alleges the Jubilee government sabotaged it in 2013 by writing to the bank to cancel the project. It was relaunched in 2017 as a political maneuver to secure re-election.
The party also accuses Ruto of deploying a "digital militia" and propaganda against Kalonzo. "He has unleashed his digital militia and propaganda machine in a futile attempt to destroy what he cannot buy: Kalonzo's integrity," Abdalla stated. Wiper claims Ruto is capturing all institutions except the Judiciary and shows no respect for the Constitution. It praises Kalonzo's clean record, leaving office in 2013 without corruption scandals or unexplained wealth.
Wiper insists its leader will not join Ruto's government and will contest against him in the 2027 general elections.
