World War Z unveils The Walking Dead crossover DLC

Saber Interactive has revealed a new DLC campaign for World War Z that crosses over with AMC's The Walking Dead franchise. The expansion features iconic characters and locations from the show, set for release in January 2026. Players can expect new story chapters and zombie variants inspired by the TV series.

World War Z, a 2021 third-person shooter developed and published by Saber Interactive, immerses players in a zombie apocalypse playable with up to four people. The game recently announced a crossover DLC with AMC's The Walking Dead, blending the two zombie universes.

The DLC includes three new story chapters set in familiar locations from the show: the Prison, Grady Memorial Hospital, and Alexandria. Players will control four iconic characters—Rick Grimes, Michonne, Daryl Dixon, and Negan—voiced by actors Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus for Rick and Daryl, respectively. New additions feature two melee weapons: Negan's barbed bat Lucille and Michonne's katanas, plus weapon skins for Rick's revolver and Daryl's crossbow. A fresh enemy type, Spiked Walkers, draws inspiration from The Walking Dead's Walkers, enhancing the Zeke swarms.

Matthew Karch, CEO and co-founder of Saber Interactive, expressed enthusiasm: "Saber has built incredible partnerships across the biggest horror universes and properties, so joining forces with The Walking Dead felt like a natural fit for World War Z. Uniting these two worlds is something I've wanted to do for a long time, and it's amazing to finally have it happening."

Clayton Neuman, VP of Games and Franchise at AMC, added: "In the finest tradition of Reese’s and ‘two great tastes that taste great together,’ we are so excited to be partnering with Paramount and Saber to mash up two iconic zombie franchises, The Walking Dead and World War Z. We can’t wait for fans of both series to see for themselves how much fun it is when Walker and Zeke worlds collide."

The DLC launches in January 2026, with World War Z currently discounted 67% on Steam until January 5. It is available on Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
