National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet stated she does not want to «add a candidacy» in the socle commun space for the 2027 presidential election. She calls for building a common project before personal ambitions. In an interview with Le Parisien, she says she is available to discuss the substance.
Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, ruled out on Saturday entering the race for the 2027 presidential election. «I will not add a candidacy after what I just told you! I am available to talk about the substance», she told Le Parisien.
She emphasizes prioritizing a collective project. «We must first build a project on the scale of a presidential majority and the socle commun», she states, refusing to back a candidate whose ambition comes first.
The socle commun space is crowded: Édouard Philippe (Horizons) and Bruno Retailleau (Les Républicains) have announced their candidacies, while Gabriel Attal (Renaissance) is preparing his and proposes a «committee of liaison» with Horizons and MoDem. Braun-Pivet regrets its male dominance: «This committee remains extremely masculine, which is somewhat problematic. We have regional presidents, mayors, a former Prime Minister, ministers, a sitting National Assembly president. It is strange not to be associated with this work».
On the 2027 budget, she supports using Article 49.3 to avoid prolonged debates in an election year, freeing time for action.
