Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages were named American League and National League Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday. Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell earned Play of the Week honors for robbing three home runs in a 1-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night. The awards highlight strong early-season performances in the 2026 MLB campaign.
Major League Baseball announced its Players of the Week on Monday, recognizing Yordan Alvarez of the Astros in the AL and Andy Pages of the Dodgers in the NL. Angels outfielder Jo Adell received the Play of the Week award for his defensive heroics against the Mariners. These honors come after the first full week of the 2026 season, with Alvarez returning strongly after injury-limited play in 2025, where he appeared in just 48 games. Pages, 25, is building on his breakout 2025 season that featured 3.8 Baseball-Reference WAR. Alvarez batted .471 last week, with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBIs, seven walks and three strikeouts. He is tied for third in MLB with four homers, tied with teammate Jose Altuve for the walk lead at 12, and leads the majors in on-base percentage at .578 and slugging at .900. This marks his fourth career AL Player of the Week award, the most recent in August 2024. Pages slashed .583/.615/.917, including two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs. He shares the MLB lead in batting average at .471 and hits with 16, alongside Miami Marlins' Xavier Edwards. This is his second NL Player of the Week honor, following one in April 2025. Adell, 26, denied home runs to Mariners' Cal Raleigh, Josh Naylor and J.P. Crawford in Saturday's shutout victory. His ninth-inning robbery saw him leap the right-field fence, tumble into the stands and secure the ball. “That was crazy,” Adell said. “Just after the first one, we were pretty fired up out there. And then I got the second one, which looked identical to the first one. And I was like, ‘Wow, like my routes are on point tonight.’ The third one was just grit, just top of the ninth, getting it done.”
