Zach Braff has revealed that the long-running eagle gag on Scrubs began as an ad-lib during a scene with Brendan Fraser. The moment occurred in season one, episode 23, and has since become a fan favorite.
Braff described the spontaneous line in an interview with News.com.au. When Brendan Fraser picked him up and started spinning, Braff imagined his character J.D. protesting at first before embracing the fun of soaring like a great eagle. The actor said the idea came to him in the moment and he never expected it to make the final cut.
