Zach Lahn defeats Trump-endorsed Feenstra in Iowa governor primary

Zach Lahn narrowly won the Republican nomination for Iowa governor on Tuesday, defeating Trump-backed Rep. Randy Feenstra by less than 2,000 votes. The upset ended Trump's recent endorsement streak in primaries.

Lahn received 37.79 percent of the vote compared to Feenstra's 37.01 percent. Feenstra, a three-term congressman, had received Trump's endorsement just four days before the primary after requesting it earlier in the year. Feenstra conceded the race and pledged support for Lahn against Democrat Rob Sand in November. Lahn, a businessman and former GOP operative, campaigned as an outsider with backing from the MAHA Action political action committee and Turning Point Action. Feenstra outspent Lahn by nearly $1 million during the contest. The primary followed Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds' decision not to seek reelection.
