100 Mile House teams win women's bonspiel events

Local teams from 100 Mile House claimed victories in all divisions of the curling club's annual Women's Bonspiel. The event drew 20 teams and 80 players from across British Columbia. Organizers highlighted strong competition and community support during the tournament.

The 100 Mile House Curling Club hosted its annual Women's Bonspiel from February 27 to March 1, attracting 20 teams and 80 players to the rink. Eleven teams were local, with others traveling from Lillooet, Merritt, Kamloops, and Williams Lake.

Sandra Coldwell, chair of the bonspiel committee, described the event as a success. "It was fantastic, I think our club has networked well this year," she said. "Many of our teams from our leagues have gone out of town to attend bonspiels and have really chatted up our own club and it has paid dividends. There was some very good competition. There were some very close games and the fans were entertained, to say the least."

Teams competed in A, B, and C events based on performance, with finals on Sunday. All top spots went to 100 Mile House teams for the first time in several years: Team Hamilton won the A event, Team Petersen took B, and Team Meade claimed C.

Coldwell praised the participation of younger teams. "We had two young working women’s teams that played. They are certainly younger than me and they have really excelled in this desire to learn the game and how to play this game. Two of these teams were in the final," she noted. "We were just beaming, we’re so proud of them."

Off the ice, the women received support from the men's committee. Chris Betuzzi prepared meals, and the Harmony Highway Band provided entertainment on Saturday. The theme was the letter G, encouraging teams to wear related costumes, which added fun to the competition.

This bonspiel marks the end of the 2025/2026 season, wrapping up in mid-March.
