Air Force suspends basketball coach Joe Scott indefinitely

The Air Force Academy has suspended men's basketball head coach Joe Scott indefinitely pending an investigation into the treatment of cadet-athletes. Assistant coach Jon Jordon will serve as interim head coach ahead of the team's game against Nevada. Scott has pledged full cooperation with the probe.

The Air Force Academy announced on Saturday, January 17, that men's basketball head coach Joe Scott has been suspended effective immediately for an indefinite period. The decision comes amid an investigation into the treatment of cadet-athletes, though no further details about the nature of the probe or what prompted it were disclosed.

In a statement, the academy said: "Air Force Men's Basketball Head Coach Joe Scott has been suspended indefinitely pending an investigation into the treatment of cadet-athletes. Assistant Coach Jon Jordon (USAFA '85) will serve as interim head coach."

Scott, 60, responded in a separate statement: "In response to today's action, I will fully cooperate with the investigation and look forward to a proper resolution of this matter. I will not have any further comment until the matter is resolved."

This marks Scott's sixth season in his second tenure leading the Falcons, whom he first coached from 2000 to 2004. He returned ahead of the 2020-21 season after serving as an assistant on Tom Crean's staff at Georgia. Over his two stints at Air Force, Scott has compiled a 97-183 record. His overall Division I head coaching record stands at 281-360, including three seasons at Princeton (2000-03) and nine at Denver (2007-16).

The Falcons enter the suspension with a 3-14 overall record and 0-6 in Mountain West play, mired in a 10-game losing streak. Their last victory came on November 23 against IU Indianapolis.

Jordon, a 1985 Air Force graduate, has been on Scott's staff since 2022 and previously served from 2000 to 2004.

The announcement preceded Air Force's home game against Nevada, scheduled for a 4 p.m. ET tipoff at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
