Anaheim Ducks acquire Jeffrey Viel from Boston Bruins

The Anaheim Ducks have traded for left wing Jeffrey Viel from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round draft pick. Boston will receive the better of Detroit's or Philadelphia's 2026 fourth-round picks. Viel brings NHL and AHL experience to the Ducks' roster.

The Anaheim Ducks announced the acquisition of 28-year-old left wing Jeffrey Viel from the Boston Bruins on an unspecified recent date. In return, Boston receives a conditional 2026 fourth-round draft pick, specifically the better of those held by Detroit or Philadelphia.

Viel, born January 28, 1997, in Rimouski, Quebec, stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 214 pounds. During the 2025-26 season, he has played 10 games for Boston, accumulating 20 penalty minutes without recording a point. Over his NHL career spanning 64 games with Boston (2024-26) and San Jose (2020-23), Viel has tallied 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points, along with 183 penalty minutes.

In the 2024-25 season, Viel split time between the Bruins and their AHL affiliate, Providence. He appeared in five NHL games with Boston and posted 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points, a +14 plus-minus rating, and 148 penalty minutes in 68 AHL contests with Providence.

Viel's AHL career includes 75 goals and 95 assists for 170 points and 688 penalty minutes across 349 games with Providence, Manitoba, and San Jose. His best professional season came in 2023-24 with Manitoba, where he achieved a career-high 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 69 games.

Earlier, in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), Viel amassed 115 goals and 81 assists for 196 points, a +12 rating, and 488 penalty minutes in 259 games split between Sherbrooke (2013-14) and Acadie-Bathurst (2014-18). He played a key role in Acadie-Bathurst's 2018 QMJHL championship, contributing 14 goals and 9 assists for 23 points in 20 playoff games and earning Playoff MVP honors. That success carried over to the 2018 CHL Memorial Cup, which the team won, with Viel named to the All-Star team.

This trade bolsters the Ducks' forward depth with a physical presence known for his penalty minutes and junior accolades.
